Certification Services
The FSC&RD provides
certification services to the following public and private sector
seed agencies:
Public Sector
- Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC), Lahore.
- Sindh Seed Corporation (SSC), Hyderabad stopped function
(production of pre-basic/basic seed has been initiated by Foundation
Seed Cell, under DG, Agri. Res. Inst. Tandojam.
- Agricultural Development Authority (ADA), Peshawar, NWFP.
Ceased to function and seed production has been taken over by
PODP (joint venture) Agri. Ext, Agri. Research.
- Department of Agriculture (DA) Quetta, Balochistan.
Multinational Seed Companies
There are four (4) multinational seed companies dealing with seed
production and marketing of various agricultural crops:
- Monsanto Pak. (Pvt.) Ltd., Lahore. (hybrid maize, sunflower,
sorghum, canola and other crops like wheat, cotton and paddy).
- Pioneer Pak. Seed (Pvt.) Ltd., Lahore. (hybrid maize, sunflower,
millet).
- Syngenta Pak. Ltd., Sahiwal. (hybrid sunflower, sorghum and
other crop, cotton).
- ICI Seed Corporation, Lahore/Karachi. (hybrid sunflower sorghum).
Private Sector
Currently, 513 private seed companies have been registered for taking
up seed production and distribution in the country. Province wise
distribution is as under:

Crop Inspection and Seed Testing (Total of All Crops)
The department on an average inspects about 4.8 lack acre of various
crops annually in accordingly to field standards of both public and
private seed companies.

Auction of confiscated seed stock
Auction of confiscated seed stock was previously handled by disposal
wing of Ministry of Industry, which used to cause delays for years
and quality of seed so confiscated suffered due to deterioration of
its quality, hence lost value and weight in poor storage conditions.
The wing has stopped functioning since 01.07.2002. Now department
has been enthrusted responsibility. So team has been constituted and
has started auctioning process to vacate our office premises being
filled with stock at Multan, Khanewal and Sahiwal etc.
